I was very excited to read Pope Francis’ encyclical on the environment Laudato Si. I interviewed Dr. Paul Burns, the dean of liberal arts from Corpus Christi College, a Catholic college at the University of British Columbia. It had been 25 years since I had taken his seminar on Augustine and he was as engaging as informative as I remembered him.
It is my hope that people who are not theologically trained might make their way through the encyclical, or perhaps might be interested in taking it on in their church or small groups or such. The encyclical means “I praise You” in Latin from the opening words of St. Francis canticle to the Sun. It has some wonderful acts of prose, a little poetry and a serious call to every person of good will to work for the care and preservation of our shared home which is under threat.
